Condensation & Mould
Specialist condensation and black-mould control for South Manchester homes.
Black mould around windows, in corners and on cold walls is almost always condensation, not rising damp — a ventilation problem rather than water getting in. As damp and mould specialists we treat the mould safely and fix the underlying cause, so it doesn't just grow straight back.
Signs to look for
- Black spotty mould around windows, in corners and behind furniture
- Streaming condensation on the windows each morning
- A damp, musty smell in bedrooms or bathrooms
- Mould on clothes, curtains or inside wardrobes
- Worse in winter and in colder, less-used rooms
What causes it
Condensation builds up when warm, moist air — from cooking, showering and drying clothes indoors — meets cold surfaces in a home that can't breathe. It's common in Chorlton houses that have been extended, double-glazed or had rooms knocked through without matching ventilation. Treat only the mould and it comes back; the moisture balance has to change.
How we treat it
We remove and treat the mould with anti-microbial products, then fix the cause: extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms, a Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) unit to keep fresh air moving through the whole house, and anti-condensation coatings on the worst cold spots. Simple, effective and far cheaper than unnecessary damp-proofing — which is exactly what a specialist should tell you.
- Positive Input Ventilation (PIV)
- Extractor fan installation
- Anti-condensation coatings
Usually not. Mould around windows, in corners and on cold walls is almost always condensation — a ventilation issue. We confirm with damp meters before recommending anything, and a lot of suspected 'rising damp' turns out to be condensation, which is far cheaper to fix.
