What to expect when we visit

Every job starts with a proper look at the property rather than a guess from the doorstep. We take moisture readings, check ground and floor levels outside, look at the state of the pointing, gutters and downpipes, and open up any affected plaster so we can see what is actually going on behind it. Plenty of damp blamed on rising damp turns out to be a leaking gutter, a bridged cavity or a blocked air brick, and sorting the cause is usually cheaper than redecorating the same wall year after year.

For genuine rising damp we install a damp proof course and treat the affected walls, then replaster with a render suited to salt contaminated masonry. Penetrating damp is dealt with at source, whether that is failed render, a defective sill or a rainwater goods problem, before anything inside is made good. Where the issue is condensation and mould, we explain where the moisture is coming from and what ventilation and heating changes will stop it returning, then clean down and treat the affected surfaces.

Because we are Chorlton based, most of the terraces, semis and converted flats we work on are the same housing stock we see every week in Didsbury, Withington, Sale, Stretford and Urmston. Solid brick Victorian walls, back extensions with raised patios and old cellars all behave in ways we know well, so there is less guesswork once work starts.
